As a personal example, last summer my sister and I went berry picking at a u-pick blueberry farm and corn farm. The money went to local farmers, we had a good time and saved money! You made a very good point. You can be frugal and shop local. A lot of people feel that they can only find good prices at a big box store, but it is because they are "assuming" the little shops will be higher. But I think it's actually when your on the brink of a new beginning that it is the hardest. Obstacles will get in the way and it's just plain easier to procrastinate. So my advice to you and to me is to not look back and just keep going. In spite of whatever gets in the way just keep moving. I once heard someone say you can't steer a ship unless it's moving. So even if you're going in the wrong direction you can at least begin to steer your life in the right direction. Disregarding each one as another one comes along. Not the kids fault i know, after all who doesn't like opening presents. But oh do we really need to buy so much. This year i have bourght less and just know i will feel guilty. Where does that guilt come from. But it has to stop. Lets get back to the simpler things in life. I almost think that this economic downturn isn't all bad, after all it will make some people think good and hard about what they really need. Happy Christmas to you all Such a good post.
