Today has been rather hectic. I have been productive. Seeing as how I still have work to finish tonight I must not have been productive enough.
I am so pushed for time that I am painting my fingernails while I am attempting to type this blog post. Just because the bottle says “quick” dry does not mean that it is true. I will be sporting 2 jacked up fingernails in the morning. My days are going by quicker and quicker, but it appears that I am getting less done. I have pondered on this for quite some time. But when I try to slow down a bit and restructure my schedule it brings on huge amounts of guilt. It is a relentless cycle that I am committed to breaking.
My main goal for this blog was to share ideas on how to live frugal. How to make the journey through life a little simpler and easier. Saving money was the first issue I wanted to bring to the table, but now I think it should include saving more than just money. We should be finding time to save more of our time for enjoying life itself. You better go back and read that last sentence for it to make sense.
We all run from place to place to find the best deal. We drag our kids from store to store to save a dime. By the time we have fought through traffic, scurried down the isles to find the bargain we are looking for and waited in that blessed check out line, we have become frustrated, irritated and ready to drop the kids off with the babysitter. All of this in order to save some money. Would it have not been worth that dime you saved to have spent more quality time with your children.
I take pride in the fact that I do not rush out and by the latest toy for my children. They actually enjoy playing outside, walking the dog and playing t-ball 2 days a week. They play for fun and I have no intentions of grooming them for a career in sports. I want them to learn how to enjoy the simpler things in life. I want them to watch the clouds, have imaginary friends and play with their dolls as long as they can. But how can they even have an imagination if I am teaching them, by example, that life must be scheduled in 30 minute increments.
This is where the life changing habits begin. This is where I start find time to save “my” time.
